A public consultation on the Strategic and Local Plan (SLP), a document that will set out a blueprint for new development in Cheltenham Borough, Gloucester City and Tewkesbury Borough, is open for feedback. Comments are being invited up until 12 March 2024.

The consultation document was made available before Christmas, and residents and businesses are now being encouraged to share their views via an online platform. They are also invited to attend a programme of events to explore topics related to the SLP, such as the environment and housing, which will run during February and March 2024.

Tewkesbury Borough Council’s Chief Executive and Senior Responsible Officer for the SLP, Alistair Cunningham OBE, said: “The Strategic and Local Plan will help to guide the long-term future growth of Cheltenham Borough, Gloucester City and Tewkesbury Borough, and so the views of residents and businesses from these areas are crucial.

“This consultation gives everyone the opportunity to tell us about the local issues and opportunities that directly impact where they live and work, as well as having a say on the policies that affect them.”

As well as establishing a vision for long term growth, the SLP will, once adopted, put forward policies to promote development where it is needed, and to protect our precious historic and natural environments. The councils will be particularly interested in opinions on the following broad questions:

  • How many new homes and jobs should we plan for and where should they go?
  • What should be the role of the Green Belt?
  • How can we address climate change?
  • How can we protect and improve nature?
  • What is special about the area that should be protected?
  • What infrastructure, shops and services do we need?
